Thriving Neighborhoods Initiative

Our Priorities

Strengthening Community Power and Generational Well-Being in Newark

Victoria Foundation’s Thriving Neighborhoods Initiative is a place-focused approach designed to support community power and long-term well-being. We are currently engaged in work in three Newark neighborhoods: Fairmount, Lower Broadway, and Upper Clinton Hill.

We have been working in Fairmount and Upper Clinton Hill in partnership with LISC-New Jersey since 2016. By working closely with residents and community organizations in these neighborhoods, we're committed to amplifying community priorities addressing historical disinvestment, and ensuring stability and prosperity are within reach for all.

Fairmount in Newark’s West Ward is a vibrant community celebrated for its cultural richness and strong community bonds. With support from key organizations like the Urban League of Essex County, the neighborhood is committed to fostering youth self-determination and opportunities for families.

Lower Broadway is a dynamic neighborhood celebrated for its rich cultural diversity and significant Latinx community. The area thrives with vibrant local businesses that embody the spirit of community-driven development and economic vitality.

Upper Clinton Hill in Newark’s South Ward is a vibrant community where culture thrives through its artists, murals, music, and comedy scenes. The neighborhood boasts local control of its school district, indicative of a community invested in the future of its youth.
