Academic Success

Describe in detail the various methods your institution uses to measure academic progress. Specifically, what standardized tests do you utilize? Which students are required to take these standardized exams? You are required to attach the results of the standardized tests that you administer to students, comparing the results over a three-year period. Whenever possible, please also indicate how these scores compare to similar tests administered in Newark, in the State, and nationally. If your school uses additional variables to measure success, please explain and attach the appropriate data.

Victoria Foundation is also interested in learning how your students succeed after they complete your program. Describe how you track your graduates. What percentage graduates from high school? What percentage attends college? What percentage graduates from college?

Please Note: Cover Sheets are necessary for all proposals, including proposals using the Common Application Form. Please submit only one copy of the Cover Sheet and the proposal. Do not use binders or staples.

Additional Information for Schools

Victoria Foundation supports teaching and learning projects, capital projects, and\or general operations at a number of independent schools in the City of Newark. Most of these donee schools have had long-term support from the Foundation, and it is very unusual for additional schools to be funded. However, from time to time, additional schools receive grants for particularly innovative or promising projects.

Purpose. Victoria Foundation believes that replicable innovations in teaching/learning are more likely to spring from self-directed, practicing, school communities than from large and homogeneous systems or from theoretical academic faculties. For many years, the Foundation has provided both start-up and sustaining funding for such experimentation in community-based, religious, and independent schools. The Foundation has also provided general operating support to schools that offered high-quality alternatives to Newark’s public school system.

Requests. Proposals from Pre-K-12 schools, for any purpose, are required to follow the Proposal Outline. However, the cover sheet, financial report, and budget differ substantially and require specific basic statistics on student body and faculty as well as financial data organized to fit the Foundation’s specific requirements.

Deadlines. Proposals from schools must be received by the Foundation by February 3. Funding decisions are made in June for the academic year beginning the following September.
